2. Super Bowl XLVI vs. New England Patriots
Final Score: 21-17
As we hit the final stages of our list, let’s talk about the runner-up which would be Super Bowl XLVI. This game just didn’t make the cut to be No. 1, but it’s not about Manning’s stat line. It’s not even about the fact that he won his second Super Bowl ring and MVP, but his immortality. History only remembers greatness and Manning’s 88-yard drive to win Super Bowl XLVI will forever be remembered.
Manning merely registered one touchdown through 294 yards on 30 completions. The Giants had control until the end of the first half, then the Patriots went off. They scored 17 unanswered points and were inching closer to the Lombardi Trophy. Even though Bradshaw scored the winning touchdown, it was Manning’s determination that got him there.
Down 15-17, three minutes left to play and at their own 12 yard line, the Giants needed to think of something. Manning started out with a 38-yard lob pass to Manningham, who got pushed out around the 50 yard line. Manning found Manningham again, but this time it was for 16 yards and he was put down on the Patriots’ 34 yard line. Manning then found Nicks for a total of 18 yards on two catches and next thing you know, Bradshaw is ready to pound it in.
This was the last time Manning was found in the Super Bowl, but in both times he’s been there, he’s delivered. We haven’t finished the list yet as we top off Manning’s stellar career with this game.
