3. Free Agent For A Reason:

The Giants are not the only team in the NFL who need help at the offensive tackle position, and yet Long is still on the open market. The Rams cut him, and the Giants seem to be the only one in line to give him another shot. While Long’s situation is unfortunate, his injuries force a bleak reality.

We’re not talking about one injury. Plenty of players have come back from one injury stronger than ever. We’re talking about a list of injuries, including an ACL that has been torn and surgically repaired twice. There is a really strong chance that Long isn’t even a fraction of what he once was. If you hear his name and think of his Pro Bowl appearances that’s wishful thinking.

If the Giants bring in Long and he struggles, how are the Giants any better off than they were? If the Giants do bring somebody in, it needs to be a known quantity. It needs to be someone who you know what to expect from. Because whoever the Giants bring in is a plan B. Long’s performance to be is unpredictable.
