The Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants have always been bitter rivals. This season the Giants have a showdown with the Cowboys, for the first real Sunday Night Football Game on NBC.
The Cowboys are one of the best teams in the National Football League, as much as we’d rather not admit it. Behind a dominant offensive line and with some serious weapons, Tony Romo leads a pretty prolific offense. The Cowboys defense isn’t the league’s stingiest unit but they are no pushovers. Beating the Cowboys is a tall test for the Giants; a test they have failed for two consecutive seasons.
It seemed we should get ready for our rival by getting an inside look. That’s why I asked Steven Mullenax, editor of FanSided’s The Landry Hat to participate in this Q&A. As much as you may hate the Cowboys Giants fans, you have to respect the wonderful work they do over at The Landry Hat.
Here is the Q&A:
Chris Schisler: What are the biggest strengths of the Cowboys?
Steven Mullenax: Their offensive line and their quarterback play.
CS: What are the biggest weaknesses of the Cowboys?
SM: Their defensive secondary and their running back position.
CS: Which Cowboys have favorable matchups against the Giants and why?
SM: Dez Bryant due to the Giants weak secondary. The Cowboys defensive line due to the Giants offensive line play and their lack of a running game.
CS: Which Cowboys Have unfavorable matchups against the Giants?
SM: Eli Manning has had success against the Cowboys secondary. This bodes well for Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz.
CS: The Cowboys have swept the Giants in two consecutive seasons, do you think they can get a third straight sweep?
SM: I’ve learned to expect nothing when you’re dealing with NFC East rivalries.
CS: Will the Cowboys regret not drafting a running back, or will their dominant offensive line make what they have work?
SM: That’s the big question. I guess we’ll find out this year if the offensive line was truly responsible for DeMarco Murray’s breakout season in 2014.
CS: What should we expect from Randy Gregory in his rookie season?
SM: Not much. Rookie pass rushers tend to need more than a year to get acclimated to the speed of the NFL.
CS: Should we expect a career year from Tony Romo?
SM: Based on the last couple of seasons, yes. And the fact that the Cowboys are focusing more on the running game only helps Romo’s game. But you do have to expect him to hit the wall at some point. Just look at Peyton Manning.
CS: Who in your opinion will have the better offense in 2015, the Giants or the Cowboys?
SM: The Cowboys, but I’m biased.
I want to thank Mr. Mullenax for doing this. The Landry Hat is a fantastic website devoted to the Dallas Cowboys. Stay tuned for more inside previews of the Giants 2015 opponents.
