5. Kyle Rote

Kyle Rote was a 1951 first round pick for the Giants. He originally played running back, but then switched to wide receiver. The switch ended up being one of the greatest decisions they team could have made for him. Rote averaged around 15.9 yards per catch, which is pretty impressive. Rote is nothing short of a Giants legend, playing in four championship games. One of those games was the 1958 NFL championship game. It is known as the ”Greatest Game Ever” which the Giants lost. He captained the New York Giants for eight years, including in this game.

Rote was at one point the Giants’ career leader in pass receptions (300), receiving yards, (4,805) and touchdown receptions (48). Rote not only did all of this for the Giants, but decided to fight for players’ rights as well. He was behind what eventually became the NFL Players Association. He was an all-around NFL legend in his own way. Rote is also a member of the College Football Hall Of Fame.
