3. Third Down Success Rate

One of the keys to offensive football is obviously converting on third downs. It is obvious that staying on the field is something that offenses should be able to do. The Giants were a team in 2014 that wasn’t afraid of third down. Their top 1o offense ranked in the top 10 of all the key third down statistics. These stats come from an awesome table of ESPN’s.

The Giants ranked 10th in the NFL in third down conversion percentage, converting 43 percent of the time. The New Orleans Saints had the top third down conversion ranking (another team with a high octane offense and no defense) with 48.3 percent. The Giants had the third most third down attempts and the second most conversions. The Giants though had the 12th most first downs in football last season.

The Giants problems in 2014 aside there was a lot this team did right. The Giants moved the ball well and they scored when they got into the red zone. Imagine how the third down numbers will improve this season. On third down you go to your go-to-player and the Giants have several guys to fill that role. Manning can sling it to Beckham Jr., Cruz, Larry Donnell and now even Shane Vereen to move the chains. The Giants had one of the best offenses in terms of moving the chains last season. This offense is only going to get better in the 2015 season.
