1. Can The Defense Be Good Enough?

The Giants defense doesn’t need to dominate their opponent. I wouldn’t complain if it was a shut down unit, but I’m not expecting it. What we need from the defense is just good enough. We need stops in the red zone, drive killing sacks and some big time takeaways. The Giants defense isn’t fixed. You don’t fix something that bad completely in one offseason. The Giants didn’t sign a game changing talent, but they added nice pieces to the puzzle. The defense should be a little tougher upfront and the secondary looks more promising than troubling.

We know that the Giants can get to the quarterback. As bad as they were last season that was an area in which they were superb. What we need to find out is how tough this team can be against the run. The Giants gave up 4.9 yards per carry in the 2014 season. If the Giants continue to struggle against the run the Giants will struggle completely on defense.

Another thing that only time will answer is how the safety positions will pan out. We know that Collins is going to be the starter at the strong safety position. The free safety position is a battle between Nat Berhe (who is battling injury) and Cooper Taylor. Either way the Giants go there won’t be a lot of experience in the back end of the Giants defense. The Giants defense won’t dominate but it is up to defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo to get the most out of his players. The Giants have so much offensive talent, but no team can be expected to win shootouts every single week. The defense has to be good enough to win.
