Steve Spagnuolo is back from Baltimore. He returns to run the Giants’ defense once again. When he was hired in 07, fans were wondering what to expect from the first-time defensive coordinator. Now, fans should be asking: how is their defensive line–an underachieving unit the last couple of seasons–going to improve?
Last time Spagnuolo was here: Justin Tuck broke out, we watched countless blitz variations, and players like Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield had career years.
The current Giants defensive line doesn’t have the same dominant potential as those lines in 2007 and 2008. But, the team has some talent along the front four–and I expect them to be a good unit.
Spagnuolo has something to play with here. He just has to find the right roles for each player.
I took a look at their depth chart and outlined the strengths of their defensive line–and the different ways Spags could use each of their linemen:
