Taking a look at this roster, nothing scares me more than the team’s linebacker depth. Journeyman JT Thomas and unproven Devon Kennard are manning the outsides while a talented yet injury-prone
Jon Beason holds down the middle. And those are the starters. I have no problem with any of these players–it’s just that there is a ton of risk if you’re banking on these three reaching their full potential. Also concerning: there are even rumblings the Giants will have to limit Beason’s practice minutes in an effort to keep them healthy.
Briggs has certainly lost a step, or three, over the past year or two, but he’d be a versatile veteran presence who can bring the Giants a reliable, experienced starter. I’m not saying Briggs would light up the world, but I’m also not going to say he’d be another Keith Bulluck signing. He would just give the Giants a reliable option at linebacker should they struggle to find stability at the position.
