Now here’s my thought on Collins: he will have the second biggest impact of any Giants draft pick this year. I know, really thinking outside the box with these first two. But like Flowers, he’s just going to get so much playing time. He’s going to start at strong safety, and he may have to anchor the middle of the field in the event Jon Beason goes down. A bit of a scary thought that a rookie would have that responsibility, but Collins is quite the talent.
It’s hard to say how good he’ll be. He was the draft’s top safety, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be an All-Pro his first year. I expect him to be good, pick off a few passes, and make some big plays. But his biggest impact will come where the defense needs him most: run support.
He’s a strong tackler, and while it may not look as nice as a bunch of picks on the highlight reel, that’s where the Giants need him, and that’s where I think he’ll thrive. He could be a very important part of a defense looking to bounce back.
