New York Giants: Interview With DT Carlif Taylor

Training camp is finally here and the injury bug is already starting to plague the New York Giants. The defense has been a concern for weeks now and things couldn’t get any worse than safety Nat Berhe tearing his pectoral muscle. In addition to the loss of Berhe, Jason Pierre-Paul has had limited contact with the Giants and hasn’t shown up to camp. In my exclusive interview with rookie defensive tackle Carlif Taylor, a lot of questions and concerns about the Giants’ defense were explained.

Anthony Sciarratta: Most people are concerned about the defense as a whole, do you think the Giants’ defense will be ready by September?

Carlif Taylor: The Giants defense was ready since OTAs. Coach Spagnuolo  is a genius and we have the right amount of vets and youth which gives us experience and depth to carry any task out as a defense. I’m 100% positive this defense will rank top eight amongst the league.

AS: In your own opinion, what do you think of the Giants’ defense? Do you like where the direction the defense is heading in?

CT: I think the Giants historically is known for great defense. From the big blue wrecking crew to now.  Just as I stated previously the balance from veterans like Jon Beason, Dominique Rodgers Cromartie , to young talent such as myself and Landon Collins. This gives us the proper time to learn and develop under these vets.

AS: Do you like the schemes that Steve Spagnuolo has set up for the Giants’ defense? Do you think he will be able to create a powerful pass rush by the start of the season?

CT: Yes Coach Spagnuolo hands down is the best defensive coordinator I have ever worked with.  A true legend in my eyes and has vision beyond what everyday people see. I am happy to have him back and I will play my heart out for him.

AS: If you had to compare yourself to one of the legendary Giants, which would you compare yourself to?

CT: Leonard Marshall

AS: Training camp has started and you have a long road ahead of you, how do you plan to stand out and earn a roster spot?

CT: My main goal is to be better today than I was yesterday. During preseason I’ll will play my heart out and show i can be productive in any way to help the team win championships.

The Giants could really use an outstanding young player on the defensive line. Taylor may be that guy. He was a force to be reckoned with in college and hopefully that will translate over to the NFL. Defense is where the Giants need help the most as looming injuries surface.
