John Jerry
John Jerry, despite inconsistencies, has been a reliable player for the majority of his career. Jerry has started 49 consecutive games dating back to December of 2011 when he was a member of the Miami Dolphins. He has played all over the offensive line, including both left and right tackle as well as both guard positions. Ideally I believe Jerry is best suited as a reserve lineman who can spell at guard or tackle for a series, play, or however long he is needed.
Unfortunately for the Giants the line has been a bit of a soft spot in recent history and they are already in need of a reserve to step up. With this being Jerry’s second year in the offense and working with the blocking schemes he should be heavily considered to start on the right side. His durability alone is something the Giants should be looking for since a majority of the offensive line has occupied the IR list since the last Super Bowl victory.
His consistency has been the issue to this point though. At points he has looked like a strong starter in this league and then he has looked like he forgot what he was supposed to be doing. Its frustrating to see but if he can build some consistency Jerry will be a good lineman.
I believe Jerry is the Giants best option, for the moment anyway. He had trouble on the interior last year but I still view him as a superior player to veteran Marshall Newhouse. His experience outweighs that of Brandon Mosley and rookies Bobby Hart and Sean Donnelly.
