Top Cornerbacks in Giants History
By Jesse Connor
4- Tom Landry – 1950-1955
In only 70 games as a Giant, Tom Landry intercepted 31 passes, recovered 10 fumbles and scored 5 defensive touchdowns. Along with being a stellar cornerback Landry doubled up as a punter and lead the league in punting yards 3 times. Landry had three seasons in which he recorded 8 interceptions.
Beginning in 1954 Landry again showed his value by playing corner, punting, and coaching the defense as the defensive coordinator. He was a player coach for just 2 seasons before he decided to end his playing career and focus on coaching. In his first season as the Giants defensive coordinator the Giants won their 4th NFL Championship and held the Chicago Bears to just 7 points in that game.
Landry’s time as a Giant often goes forgotten due to his success as a head coach with the hated Dallas Cowboys. It should not be forgotten where he started. In the secondary for the New York Football Giants.
