Top Cornerbacks in Giants History
By Jesse Connor
6 – Aaron Ross – 2007-2011, 2013
Some may consider the 2007 1st round pick to be a bust. He never made a Pro-Bowl, never lead the league in any defensive category and only had 11 interceptions in 69 games as a New York Giant. What he did do though was start in 2 Super Bowls against arguably the best quarterback and best coach of all time. Ross never let a receiver in the endzone in either Super Bowl 42 or 46.
His effort to contain Wes Welker to just 60 yards (Welker averaged 98 yards per game in 2011) in SB 46 goes vastly un-noticed along with several big hits that night. The Giants pass rush is what gets most of the credit for the 2 super bowl victories but that pass rush would have been useless without Ross’ play on the outside. Ross played 4 full seasons in New York. In those seasons the Giants lead the NFL in sacks in 2007 with 53 , they finished 6th in 2008 with 42 sacks , 5th in 2010 with 46 sacks, and 4th in 2011 with 48 sacks. In 2009 when Ross played in only 4 games the Giants finished 21st in the league with 32 sacks. In 2013, with Ross playing just 4 games, the Giants finished 26th in the league with 34 sacks. Some players play outside the stat line, Aaron Ross was one of them.
