Wide Receiver and Tight End

I made a case for both Reggie Wayne and Wes Welker about a month ago. Since then the Giants have added James Jones, who I think really makes the Giants passing attack scary. There is a worry about Victor Cruz’s return that still floats in my head. The Giants have numerous weapons lining up at receiver but if they opt to release Preston Parker they will be left without a true slot receiver in the event Cruz doesn’t regain his previous player.

In addition the Giants have a question mark as to who their 3rd tight end will be and could sure use an end who can help out the offensive line a bit and block.

An old enemy lingers on the free agent market as wideout Santana Moss approaches his 15th NFL season without a roster spot. Moss is nowhere near the player he once was. He has started just 2 games in the past 3 seasons and has caught only 93 balls for 1,141 and 10 touchdowns in those years. Moss was essentially held onto by the Redskins for his veteran presence. A savy old veteran could step in and help teach whatever he has to to young receivers Odell Beckham and Rueben Randle. I hope Cruz comes back to full strength but if he doesn’t , and he has to miss time, Moss wouldn’t be a terrible replacement

As for tight ends I like Zach Miller as an option but I already spoke about that so I will turn my attention to little known tight end Michael Palmer. Palmer has spent 5 seasons in the NFL, three with the Atlanta Falcons and the most recent two with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Palmer has just 23 receptions since entering the league. His specialty is blocking. The Giants have one tight end who is a good pass catcher in Larry Donnell but Donnell’s blocking is sub-par. Backup Daniel Fells is a good blocker but I wonder if the Giants have considered moving to 2-Tight end sets to help out the line with blocking. Palmer could fill right in and add insurance to an offensive line that surely needs it. He, along with Fells can reach out to Donnell and help him become a better blocker.
