What’s New With The Falcons?

Chris Schisler: 1. It looks like Dan Quinn brought the defense to Atlanta. Were you surprised how well they handled the Eagles fast paced offense?

Freddie Boston:  was. I expected there to be some improvements across the board, particularly with the pass rush, but I thought this would be a gradual development through the season. On paper, the prospect of facing this Eagles offense right out of the gates felt like it could be too much to overcome for a rebuilding defense. But the Falcons didn’t just handle Chip Kelly’s offense in the first half, they manhandled them. The second half was a little more sobering which shows there is still work to be done, but all in all it was a positive start.

CS: 2. Tevin Coleman looked pretty sharp on Monday Night Football. Could he be the piece that adds another element to the offense?

FB: Absolutely. The Falcons liked him enough to spend a third round draft selection on him and he’s got heaps of potential. After missing most of preseason with a hamstring injury, we finally got to see what he can do and it’s exciting. For the first time in what feels like forever, Atlanta has balance on offense and defenses have to respect the run.
