A Bill Parcells product, playing on one of great Giants defensive units, Marshall was a rock coming off the edge for the Big Blue Wrecking Crew. Registering 83.5 career sacks, he played across the line from another Giant great, George Martin, on the defensive line on their 1986 Super Bowl-winning squad. Can you imagine the nightmare that defense gave opposing quarterbacks? Those two, and Carl Banks and Lawrence Taylor coming off the edges??
No one wanted to face that. And Marshall was one of the reasons why. A two-time All-Pro, Marshall was an excellent pass rushing defensive end—one playing in a 3-4 system, where it’s a little harder to sack the QB—and he was an enormous presence, standing at 6’3” 288 lbs. A dominant force and rock-solid end, Marshall’s name doesn’t come up all that often anymore, but he’s well recognized in Giants history as one of the greats to line up along the front four in a Giants uniform.
Next: 6. George Martin
