Lining up on the left side of the line opposite of Marshall: George Martin. I liken Martin to Marshall, not only because they played together on the ’86 championship squad, but because they were similarly complete defensive ends. Martin, the smaller of the two, was a good 3-4 pass rushing end who is also credited as a good run defender. And while his career sack numbers are lower than Marshall’s, remember, sacks didn’t become an official stat until 1982, so we could be looking at a very similar statistical resume if Martin had started his career a few years later.
Not to mention, Martin also had one of the greatest plays in Giants history when he intercepted John Elway for a 78-yar pick six. When Bill Parcells says it’s the “greatest football play” he’s ever seen, it’s a pretty good play.
Also, the work he’s done for the first responders of 9/11 is quite admiral. It was called the Journey for 9/11. It’s a hall of fame- off the field act, and something worth mentioning about the former Giants captain.
