4. Will They Solidify The Run Game?
I don’t panic about this aspect of the team specifically—the Giants are still a
middling rushing unit (21st in football with 756 combined yards), and in a passing league, running the ball, while important, isn’t as vital as it once was.
But for a Giants team that’s missing Victor Cruz and relying on spreading the ball around the offense, it will be important for them to set up their strong passing attack with the run.
Orleans Darkwa has made an interesting case for more carries, but I’m not sold that he’s the answer to improving this unit. To me, if they block better and Rashad Jennings stays fully healthy—being a proven veteran, I trust he’s the most capable of getting the most out of his runs than anyone else on this offense—it’s the team’s best bet at putting forth a consistent rushing attack.
It’s been awhile since the Giants were really a dominant rushing team. I don’t expect them to get there anytime soon, but maybe they can improve in the second half of 2015.
