New York Giants: New Year Resolutions
After a wonderful winter holiday, 2015 is coming to an end. It is time to make New Year’s resolutions, you know the promises to yourself that last about a month. Well the New York Giants need to make some resolutions, and they need to stick to them.
The first thing the Giants have to do is move in a new direction. It is hard to change but it may just be time for Tom Coughlin and Jerry Reese to go. It’s been a while since Big Blue had a big year. Lately the Giants have made things harder than they needed to be. The last two seasons they went 7-9 and 6-10. They have only been in contention this season because the NFC East is horrible. When the product on the field is not good enough, you have to make a change.
The Giants must resolve to get better at situational football. The team has enjoyed a fourth quarter lead in all but two games. More often than not the opponent rips that lead away from the Giants. When you have one of the worst pass defenses in football and one of the least productive rushing attacks, you’re going to struggle holding on to leads.
The Giants must look at themselves in the mirror and fix the defense. The offense will always be competent with Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. running the show. It is hard to have a balanced roster in the salary cap era but that defense is fixable. Get some pass rush, get a free safety and like that you have a presentable defense.
The Giants have to be restored to the greatness that Tom Coughlin had them at. He was a great coach but the message has become stale and it is time for him to go. The same can be said about general manager Jerry Reese. The talent level is not there anymore and that is on his shoulders.
The Giants must resolve to start new. It is the only way to get to their fifth Super Bowl championship.
