3. Sean McDermott
The Giants desperately need help on the defensive side of the ball. Hiring a head coach with a defensive background may be a good route to take. That’s why Carolina Panthers’ defensive coordinator Sean McDermott will be at the top of the list for Big Blue.
McDermott could do something similar to what Todd Bowles did to the New York Jets’ defense. The Jets obviously had better talent already in place, but they went out and bought a lot of their defensive players as well.
Dominique Rodgers-Cromarite, Landon Collins, and Prince Amukamara (if re-signed) could all be major contributors if they had the right coach in their ears. Combine that with the Giants’ large salary cap number coming in 2016 and things are already starting to look better.
McDermott will probably be one of the most pursued head coaching candidates on the market in the 2016 offseason. The Giants will really have to kick it up a notch to get him to come coach in East Rutherford.
