Ben McAdoo is at the “halfway point” of building is staff and he is making it his own. Many of the Tom Coughlin-era assistants have taken other jobs already and sources tell NJ Advance Media that Jerry Palmieri, the strength and conditioning coach, will be out as well. He be reassigned and stay with the New York Giants organization, however.

This seems like an obvious move if you’ve watched the Giants over the past few seasons. They’ve been one of the most injured teams three years running. This past season, the Giants finished with 22 players on injured reserve or the P.U.P. list. All three starting linebackers at the beginning of the season ended 2015 on the I.R..

Palmieri had been with Coughlin since Boston College. He came to the NFL when Coughlin took the head coaching job in Jacksonville and followed him to the Giants. Palmieri began as a strength coach at the University of North Carolina in 1982.

According to Football Outsiders, the Giants have finished 32nd in their adjusted games lost to injury metric each of the past two years. While that is problematic, it’s not entirely the fault of Palmieri. If the Giants lose games due to injury, they lack quality players at the bottom of the depth chart which falls on Jerry Reese.

The organizational shakeup that many Giants fans wanted seems to be happening. The Giants have already lost their wide receivers coach Sean Ryan to the Texans, assistant special teams coach Larry Izzo to the Texans, and linebackers coach Jim Herrmann to the Colts. McAdoo has already removed offensive line coach Pat Flaherty.
