5. MIDDLE LINEBACKER

Outside linebacker Jonathan Casillas was the lone Giant in the top 50 tacklers at the linebacker position. As for the other OLBs? J.T. Thomas was a disappointment and Devon Kennard missed nearly half the season due to injury. However, I’d expect Thomas to excel and Kennard to return to form. It’s the the middle linebacker position that requires urgent attention. Jasper Brinkley showed promise in the middle, but is a free agent who might use his exceptional season to land a pay day somewhere else. Jon Beason will either get released or will restructure his contract. When the Giants went to the Super Bowl in 2008, they had captain Antonio Pierce calling the shots. In Super Bowl XLVI, they got outstanding play from Chase Blackburn. It’s time to get a guy who can command the defensive huddle.

POTENTIAL FREE AGENTS: Danny Trevathan, Derrick Johnson, Jerrell Freeman, Kelvin Sheppard, Brandon Marshall
