6. Jaye Howard (DT, Kansas City Chiefs)

2015 Cap Hit: $660,000

Age: 27 years old

It came down to Howard and San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ian Williams, but Howard gets the slight edge with a higher average “approximate value” from Pro Football Reference.

WalterFootball.com has Howard ranked as the 6th top free agent at D-tackle, noting:

"“Two years ago, Jaye Howard was claimed off waivers from the Seahawks. He has transformed into a solid 3-4 defensive end. He was particularly strong against the run but also generated a decent pass rush.”"

I know, he’s used to playing in a 3-4, but at 6 feet 3 inches 300+ pounds, he and 6 foot 3 inch, 320 pound Johnathan Hankins and 6 foot 3 inch. 306 pound Jay Bromley would occupy enough space to free up the linebackers on runs or blitzes.

5. Janoris Jenkins (CB, St. Louis Rams)

2015 Cap Hit: $1,587,829

Age: 27 years old

WalterFootball.com ranked Jenkins as the second best free agent at the corner position:

"“Janoris Jenkins is one of the better cornerbacks in the NFL. He didn’t play all that well in 2014 because of a lingering knee injury, but he bounced back with a very strong 2015 campaign. Just 27, Jenkins has a very bright future ahead of him.”"

The playmaker placed 18th on NFL.com’s top 20 unrestricted free agents list. Jenkins is smaller than Prince Amukamara, but has been able to stay on the field more. Big Cat Country believes Jenkins could be targeted by the Jacksonville Jaguars while Ebony Bird made their case for Janoris becoming a Baltimore Raven. With Jenkins on one side and DRC on the other, plus a better pass rush and upgrade at safety, the Giants defense would leapfrog to the top half of the league.
