5. Prince Amukamara

The answer needs to be an emphatic no—franchise tag or any substantial contract.

Amukamara is already on record aspiring towards $10 million year at least. Having won a math award in high school (albeit through theatre-based vocation), offering the anticipated $14.8 million tag worth in return doesn’t sound logical.

Forgetting the $14.8 million, Amukamara’s own asking price would deem him more valuable than New York’s No. 1 cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. DRC is a Pro Bowler who actually contributed positively to the team’s standings and box scores, while Prince suited up for only 19 of the past 32 possible games.

  • Combine Prince’s inability to stay on the field (one 16-game season in his five-year career) with his negatively commented premonitions earlier this year and prioritized calling as some chick named “A” (I think?). It’s fair to say the first-round pick out of Nebraska is beginning to reek of bust-dom.

Why he’s considered on this list at all is because he remains a premier name in the face of the league’s No. 32 pass defense. Should Jerry Reese realize sooner rather than later that the CB market is too narrow or risky, a last chance of an olive branch may still be an option in his eyes.

Ultimately, though, Amukamara is just not worth it. Make money elsewhere while the Giants save the marginal deal for Trumaine McBride or cash in on a Kansas City Chiefs cap casualty.
