The Ben McAdoo scouting combine press conference gave us fans a little more insight into the man at the master controls for the New York Giants. The media asked McAdoo about how his regime and reign will differ from his predecessor, Tom Coughlin. McAdoo seems to have way more interesting ways to put things. His expressions, quotes, and colloquialisms raised an eyebrow or two. Reporters also inquired about Victor Cruz, Jason Pierre-Paul, the releases of Geoff Schwartz and Will Beatty, the Philadelphia Eagles’ interest in him, the running game, and how McAdoo evaluates talent at the combine and in free agency. All in all, McAdoo handled himself fairly well. He’s still dead set on not letting anyone know who’s calling plays. He loves that “Evolution, not revolution” saying, which has to be at a printing press getting slapped on t-shirts.

“…wrap your hands around the, I guess, the draft class”

REACTION: Is Ben McAdoo into choking or strangling?

“There are a couple different ways to skin a cat, and Tom and Mike are great examples of that.”

REACTION: Ben McAdoo might be a homicidal maniac. Making a Murderer just found its murderer. I mean, he WAS in Green Bay.

“So now, you have a chance to work with different people and a variety of areas, and have a chance to wrap your hands around the entire team.”

REACTION: Yup, McAdoo’s into asphyxiation.

“You take that and you mold it and you make it your own.”

REACTION: Or, he’s just really into using his hands. He’s handsy. I picture him at a clay molding wheel like Patrick Swayze in Ghost.

“We may give everybody a call sheet on opening day.”

REACTION: Humor! I say why not? Any edge you can get, right?

  • “We have to end the game with the lead”

REACTION: Probably the most peculiar way to say, ‘we need to win games’. A harsher critic would say, “thanks, Captain Obvious”, but I like how he phrased it.

“Jerry and I, we’re attached at the hip.”

REACTION: Don’t get too attached, Ben.

“You have to protect your quarterback and you have to get after the other team’s quarterback. It’s directly related to the QB rating differential, which is important in winning and losing games.”

REACTION: Never really thought that QB rating differential was directly tied to winning, since Eli’s been playing the best ball of his career, accumulating the highest ratings of his career, yet back to back 6-10 seasons. Has the defense really been that bad?

“He can still crack the whip if need be, and that’s hard to find in today’s league.”

REACTION: Oh yeah. Ben’s definitely into BDSM. Whoa. His initials bookend the fetish.

    “it’s evolution, not revolution.”

REACTION: Where on the Evolution of Man are the Giants now? Have the Giants discovered fire yet?

“We didn’t want to let him (Patrick Graham) out of the building.”

REACTION: Seriously, does McAdoo have a criminal record? Has anyone checked his basement?

“We’re going to put it all in the pot, we’re going to stir it up.”

REACTION: McAdoo has to make a mean chili. No doubt in my mind.

“The game’s about the ball, number one, so we need to take care of the ball better. The next thing we need to do is we need to extract the ball better”

REACTION: Extract the ball. That’s serial killer talk. But, I love it. It’s also kind of scientific. McAdoo is a mad scientist. And if our defense can be a bunch of ninjas and silent assassins mixed with madmen, I’m all for it.

“It’s a combination between free agency and the draft on how you add players, how you acquire players.”

REACTION: #NailedIt. McAdoo also mentioned there’s no one cure-all. The roster could see a lot of turnover and that will be difficult to oversee and guide. But, there’s a lot of optimism in the building. This guy doesn’t have any hobbies. He just eats, drinks, breathes, and chokes the life out of football. Bring on the combine!
