New York Giants Free Agency 2016: Offensive Targets At Each Position
By Mike Luca
Quarterback: T.J. Yates
The Giants should be thankful another offseason come around that they’re one of the franchises least in need of a quarterback. Factoring the on-field and iron-man status of Eli Manning, New York is well-practiced in maximizing depth throughout the roster rather than employing two clipboard holders.
Just in case there is no wood nearby to knock on, Yates is the prime candidate for any team secure behind center.

In five years thus far he hasn’t appeared to be someone who actively clamors for or warrants a starting role. Whenever called upon but the Houston Texans, though, he finds ways to win games (5-4 as a starter including postseason) above all else, despite game-managing statistics and limiting attributes. Of all the backups available, Houston is best suited to start from scratch and let Yates walk, especially with the signing of Brock Osweiler and the high asking price for Case Keenum.
The only reason this could even be a conversation is if New York pulls a 180 and offers Ryan Nassib as trade bait. Through exceptionally brief cameos, four-year reserve Nassib held his own, but the Aaron Rodgers-esque patience may understandably wear thin behind the Manning brother who isn’t slowing down any time soon.
Giants fandom should want Nassib to stay, mainly for the possible subplot of his own sibling reunion. If his value is drastically distributed elsewhere, then Yates is the more intangibly proven choice, even over a hungrier Scott Tolzien or perennial Charlie Whitehurst.
Of course, how darkly hilarious it would be to kidnap Brock Osweiler or Ryan Fitzpatrick and ruin countless people’s day…
