In their article on the list of best undrafted players of all-time, NFL.com called McGriff the “unsung stalwart of Giants defense of the ’80s”. In 1980, Curtis made the NFL’s all-rookie team and was a member of the Giants’ 1986 Super Bowl Championship team despite missing the entire season. Over six seasons with the G-Men, McGriff was primarily a run-stopper who’d leave the field on passing downs in favor of a pass rush specialist. His best seasons came in 1981 and 1985.
