New York Giants: Top 10 First Round Draft Picks of All-Time
By Mike Luca
7. Hakeem Nicks, WR (2009, #29)
The stud North Carolina prospect followed through on making the Giants draft practice of first-round wideouts cool again. The result is one of the league’s WR juggernaut factories of this decade, only now headlined by Beckham.
RECEIVING TOUCHDOWNS: 2010 – 11 (4th in NFL)
Nicks respectfully sits at ninth in receptions (318) and eighth in yardage (4,676), while it’s his 2011-12 postseason run (28-444-4) that hovers above any SportsCenter highlight or regular-season accolade.

With the First Pick
Despite nagging deterioration that ran Nicks out of Tom Coughlin’s camp in the first place, there’s still reasonable room for more at the age of 28. His second stint enters a more player-friendly environment where Nicks’ own brand of veteran wisdom could flourish. Plus, concerns circle an unhealthy Victor Cruz and the void left by Rueben Randle signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. It all adds up to a beloved comeback story.
YARDS PER RECEPTION:
2009 – 16.8 (7th in NFL)
2013 – 16.0 (10th in NFL)
Active – 14.3 (23rd in NFL)
Nicks and OBJ could each void their rankings on this list as quickly as this upcoming season’s end. As the two resumes currently match up, however, Nicks’ sheen undermines OBJ’s shine as a New York first-round prize.
RECEIVING YARDS PER GAME:
2010 – 80.9 (5th in NFL)
2011 – 79.5 (10th in NFL)
Career – 55.2 (106th in NFL)
