#1 Jason Pierre-Paul, DE (27)

2016 Cap Hit: $9,400,000

Before he nearly blew off his entire hand in last year’s July 4th fireworks fiasco, JPP was preparing for the Giants’ franchise tag, which would’ve set him up to earn a hefty paycheck this past offseason. Instead, Big Blue was forced to rescind the offer while Pierre-Paul recovered from the accident and missed half the season. No one could’ve really predicted whether or not the Giants had a shot at re-signing JPP after his handicapped campaign in 2015.

Four months ago, he was named one of the top 10 defensive players to hit free agency. His deal with Big Blue was considered one of the best free agent signings by PFF’s Sam Monson, who called it “smart for both sides“.

Thankfully, he signed a 1 year, $10,000,000 contract that included a $4,250,000 signing bonus, a roster bonus of $600,000 and a workout bonus of $300,000. Pierre-Paul has a cap hit of $9,400,000 while his dead money value is $8,500,000. There’s not doubt JPP helped the Giants pass rush, though he only notched one sack.

After another surgery to improve his grip, many expect the seventh-year veteran to have a banner year en route to the Comeback Player of the Year Award and a handsome multi-year agreement in 2017.
