Drafted by the New York Giants in the 5th round (132nd overall) of the 1989 NFL Draft, several picks after the New York Jets selected wide receiver Tony Martin, and several picks before the Detroit Lions picked USC quarterback Rodney Peete.
In six seasons with the G-Men, Meggett played in 96 games and totaled more than 3,400 yards from scrimmage, plus 15 total touchdowns. His 582 punt return yards in 1989 was tops in the NFL. He also led the league in returns and punt return yards the following year in 1990.
Meggett made it to one Pro Bowl as a Giant in 1989. He was the NFC Player of the Week in the 16th week of 1993 and the first week of 1994. Meggett’s 1,807 all-purpose yards in ’89 were third most in the league. In 1990, his 1,533 all-purpose yards was 6th highest while his 1,366 AP yards in 1991 was ninth most in the NFL.
