Drafted by the New York Giants in the 5th round (61st overall) of the 1951 NFL Draft, three rounds after the Chicago Bears picked Wake Forest linebacker and 8-time Pro Bowler Bill George, two rounds after the New York Yanks scooped up Kansas tackle and Hall of Famer Mike McCormack, and one round before the Detroit Lions selected Colorado State DB, 5-time Pro Bowler Jack Christiansen.
