Our Analysts Hand Out New York Giants 2016 Draft Grades
By Neal Lynch

Round 3 Pick 8: Darian Thompson (S, Boise State)
“Very good pick. The secondary was a big area of concern coming into the draft, and the addition of Thompson, along with Apple, to a defensive backfield that already includes Landon Collins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie could turn the defensive backfield from one of the team’s liabilities into one of its strengths.”

“When assessing Reese’s drafts, his “value > need” mentality creates a more frustratingly thicker line of judgment than most between the players and the situations they enter. At first glance, caving with a Day 2 safety is a letdown. For those who good-naturedly bought into the murmurs out of MetLife that their battling nucleus of Nat Berhe and Mykkele Thompson would be enough, adding another unproven youth to the mix might be counterproductive. Then, after watching more of Thompson’s tape (Darian, not Mykkele), this rookie can easily win the job. His hands might as well have been football magnets for four years straight in Boise, and that opportunistic IQ in centerfield masks any workout deficiencies. Overcoming the initial shock of unfamiliarity and reach accusations, New York’s secondary can develop into something lethal for years to come.”
