CG Technology released their point spreads for nearly every NFL game in the 2016 season (excluding Week 17) and odds are the New York Giants will be in the playoff hunt. Through the first 16 weeks, the Giants are favored for eight games and their game in London against the Los Angeles Rams is a pick’em.
Within the division, CG has the Giants splitting games with the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. As for the Washington Redskins, New York is favored by 3 at home in Week 3. They face off again in Week 17.
The Giants are heaviest underdogs against the Green Bay Packers (-8) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (-7.5) – both away games. Most Giants fans probably had these games marked down as losses when the 2016 schedule was released. Facing two top-shelf quarterbacks on playoff teams on the road doesn’t bode well for a team that went 6-10.
One of the more surprising point spreads from CG is the aforementioned game against the Rams. While it’s technically an away game, the Giants will be on a neutral site against either rookie Jared Goff or journeymen Case Keenum/Nick Foles. If it’s the Giants revamped defense against a rookie with six games maximum under his belt, it would seem to be a Big Blue win.
Obviously these lines will change as the summer and then the season progresses, but it has the Giants in the hunt for a playoff berth, something that has alluded them for the past four seasons. If the London game is a win for the Giants, that would give them nine wins entering Week 17 against the Redskins on the road. Nine wins was enough to win the division last year, but with a healthy Tony Romo in the division, let’s assume that won’t be the case in 2016. With a win against the ‘Skins in the final game of the season, the Giants would finish with 10 wins, enough for a playoff berth in 2015.
