  • You might remember this game as the one when Phil Simms threw the ball 62 times for 513 yards (a career high from Phil), but was sacked 7 times and intercepted twice, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Tight end Mark Bavaro had 12 catches for 176 yards while wide receiver Lionel Manuel snagged 8 catches for 111 yards. Nine different targets caught passes for Big Blue that day.

The G-Men amassed 34 first downs to Cincy’s 16 and New York’s defense held the Bengals to less than 200 total yards, but the turnovers were brutal as the Giants lost two fumbles.

Jess only played four seasons in the NFL and 1985 was probably the weirdest as he bounced back and forth from the Giants to the St. Louis Cardinals.

The ’85 Giants went 10-6 and finished in a three-way tie for first place in the NFC East, but lost to the tiebreaker to the Cowboys (0-2 head to head) and won the tiebreaker over the Redskins (1-1 head to head, lost to 49ers, worse conference record).
