1. There’s Nothing Wrong With A Little Competition:

Although the Giants cut Uani’ Unga and Jon Beason announced his retirement, the G-Men will not lack competition at the LB position in training camp. The eight linebackers on the current roster include signees Robinson, Sheppard, Goodson, and 2015 returnees Kennard, Brinkley, Casillas, Thomas, and Herzlich. Assuming the Giants keep six linebackers out of the 53-man roster, one or two of the above names will likely get cut.

Here’s where the projected competition stands at each position-
MIKE: Jasper Brinkley, Kelvin Sheppard, Mike Herzlich, B.J. Goodson, Keenan Robinson
WILL: Jonathan Casillas, J.T. Thomas, B.J Goodson, Keenan Robinson
SAM: Devon Kennard, Mark Herzlich

No, expectations should not be at an all-time high for show-stopping, hard-nosed linebacker play. However, the combination of draft talent, off-season moves, position depth, and defensive line improvements, should make way for immediate, impactful play from the linebackers.
