Bennett Jackson

Bennett Jackson is another later round selection that has had a potential NFL career derailed by devastating injuries.  A native of Hazlet, NJ and a Notre Dame alum, Jackson has the pedigree to become a viable starter for the Giants in 2016.  Taken in the sixth round of the 2014 draft, Jackson has missed the past two seasons due to an ACL tear, suffered during last season’s preseason, and microfracture surgery, which was conducted back in October of 2014.  Both are debilitating injuries; microfracture surgery has gained notoriety in stymieing plenty of professional athlete’s careers.  Jackson, however, has said the injury was not as severe as some cases may suggest, and is confident the knee will return to full strength.  Via NJ.com, “They said it depends on the hole. I had a small one…They said my recovery there shouldn’t be any problems. I’m already lifting on it and stuff. It feels good.” This, said a few months removed from surgery; his microfracture surgery long behind him, and already well on his way to comeback from his torn ACL, Bennett Jackson appears poised to compete for a role in the Giants secondary rotation.  Speaking at his football camp this June, Jackson admitted that the knee “wasn’t 100 percent, but it’s definitely on the way. By training camp it will be phenomenal.” After entering 2015’s training camp with a legitimate chance to earn the starting safety role, Jackson will again look to push for starting time at free safety, and could even find defensive snaps at his college position, cornerback.
