After Saturday’s Training Camp practice, New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo spoke regarding the competition at wide receiver.

"“It is a great problem to have…We have a lot of competition there and there is a lot of competition in different positions. We really look forward to seeing these guys progress in practice and playing in games.”"

The Giants likely have six roster spots reserved for wide receivers. Odell Beckham Jr, Sterling Shepard, Victor Cruz, and Dwayne Harris should lock in the first four spots, if they avoid injury.

The competition McAdoo speaks of is for the fifth and sixth wide receiver spots. These players include Geremy Davis, Roger Lewis, Myles White, Darius Powe, Tavarres King, and French import Anthony Dable.

After an impressive summer during OTA’s and training camp, Geremy Davis has caused some further excitement around camp.

Davis’ size helps his case too. At 6’2″, the Giants’ 2015 sixth-round draft pick, possesses length that OBJ, Shepard, Cruz, and Harris cannot provide.  Many believe that Davis has earned his way into the fifth roster spot leaving only one spot for five players.

After attending Saturday’s Training Camp, I, along with others left with positive impressions of Darius Powe. Regardless of the quarterback throwing to him, Powe exhibited a great deal of concentration, field awareness and grit to pull in several acrobatic catches. There is a reason back-up quarterback Logan Thomas went to him on three straight plays during seven-on-seven drills.

Still, the undrafted free agent out of Cal is a long shot to grab the final roster spot. Powe, along with Dable and Lewis, are competing against two veterans in King and White.

Myles White is certainly no lock for the final sixth spot, but he did receive substantial playing time in 2015, and the Giants’ organization has expressed a a favorable impression of him.

Heading into Friday night against the Miami Dolphins and the subsequent preseason games, expect a good deal of playing time for Geremy Davis and the remaining Giants wide receiver hopefuls. Training camp competition is heating up, but roster spots should be decided in real game scenarios.
