Landon Collins

Position: Strong Safety
Experience: 2nd Season
Pro Bowl Appearance(s): 1x (2016)
2016 Season Statistics: 14 games played, 108 tackles, 87 solo, 3.0 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 5 interceptions, 18 passes defended, 1 defensive touchdown

There’s a large contingency of fans who believe that New York Giants safety Landon Collins should win Defensive Player of the Year. He’s ranked amongst the most outstanding individual defensive players in 2016 and has been instrumental to the team’s improvement.

Collins is the Giants’ Defensive Player of the Year, if not the NFL’s, and New York’s status as an elite defensive team easily explains why he’s a Pro Bowler.

Collins is No. 2 amongst defensive backs in tackles and interceptions, and No. 1 in sacks. Beyond the numbers, he’s been the spark plug for the Giants’ defense as a force to be reckoned with from a physical perspective and a playmaker against passing attacks.

There’s nothing that Collins seems incapable of doing on defense, which is why he’s utilized in so many different roles.

Collins has the power of a linebacker, the speed of a cornerback, and the range of a safety. He’s silenced the criticism that stated he’d be unable to defend the pass at the next level by emerging as one of the best ball-hawks in the NFL.

Whether or not he wins Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, Collins has earned his place as a Pro Bowler and should be back in future seasons.
