Jason Pierre-Paul

Position: 4-3 Defensive End
Age: 28 (1/1/1989)
Experience: 7 Seasons
2016 Season Statistics: 12 GP, 53 tackles, 35 solo, 7.0 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 8 passes defender

The New York Giants are approaching a decision that will define the future of the organization. Jason Pierre-Paul has been a loyal and productive player in New York since 2010, but he’s now a coveted free agent.

With a market value set at roughly $15 million per season, the Giants will have to determine if Pierre-Paul is worth the cost.

Pierre-Paul is coming off of a strong season in 2016, for which he was rated No. 13 amongst edge defenders by Pro Football Focus. He’s seven seasons into his career with the Giants, and he’s built some form of equity with them.

With New York already paying $17 million per season to Olivier Vernon, however, it’s fair to question whether or not they can afford to shell out another $15 million per season to Pierre-Paul.

Paying $32 million per season to a pair of defensive ends would be a risky proposition, no matter how gifted they may be. Having said that, Pierre-Paul and Vernon have developed intriguing chemistry and played a crucial role in New York’s defense becoming elite.

Everyone seems to have an opinion on whether or not the Giants should re-sign Pierre-Paul. It’s on Jerry Reese to determine how valuable he is to the Giants’ defense.
