Pro: Work Ethic
Throughout his football career, Jamaal Charles has been heralded for his work ethic. He’s widely regarded as one of the hardest workers in the NFL, which makes him a positive influence on any locker room he enters.
For a New York Giants team that’s attempting to develop a promising young running back in Paul Perkins, Charles’ presence would hold the young gun accountable.
Though there are obvious reasons for concern, Charles has the work ethic to justify a short-term contract. He’ll do everything in his power to get back into the best shape possible, and both play and produce as well as he possibly can.
There’s nothing that can guarantee a successful 2017 for Charles, but it’s harder than it should be to find players who can be trusted to give maximum effort.
For Perkins, learning from a hard-working veteran like Charles would expedite his development into New York’s No. 1 running back. For Eli Manning and Ben McAdoo, they could rely on Charles to hold other players accountable and show up to work on a daily basis.
The injuries and the age concerns may be tough to overlook, but Charles can be trusted to put it all on the line for his team.
