2. Deshaun Watson Fits Into Ben McAdoo’s Offensive Scheme

The Clemson Tigers’ offense was known for their high-tempo spread offense which famously took down Nick Saban’s juggernaut of a football team in this year’s National Championship Game.

The National Championship is not the only game where this offensive scheme worked for Deshaun Watson, though. He was one of the best quarterbacks in the country during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

In an article written at the end of 2015, SB Nation writer Ian Boyd discussed how much Watson benefitted from this system:

"“As evidenced by his high completion percentage (No. 3 in the country at 69.5) and relatively modest yards per attempt (No. 22 at 8.5), Watson is at his best throwing slants and outs into the spacing afforded by these formations and the threat of his legs.”"

Check the numbers.

High completion percentage? Low yards per attempt? Slants and outs? Does this sound familiar to you? It should, because this is exactly how New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo runs his offense.

Put into McAdoo’s scheme, I believe Deshaun Watson would excel just as much as he did in college.
