2. The Pierre-Paul And Vernon Connection

As previously alluded to, re-signing Jason Pierre-Paul means avoiding a hit of the proverbial reset button. It creates invaluable continuity that will enable Steve Spagnuolo and the New York Giants to pick up where they left off once training camp arrives.

Though it’s been alluded to already, the primary reason to love Pierre-Paul re-signing is how well he and Olivier Vernon play off of one another.

Both Pierre-Paul and Vernon were rated as Top 15 edge defenders by Pro Football Focus in 2016. One could debate whether or not they’re worth their lucrative cost, but there’s no denying how well they played this past season.

Though both are versatile ends who can contribute in multiple phases of the game, the primary appeal is in how they balance out the other’s weaknesses.

Pierre-Paul is a Top 20 run defender at his position, but Vernon is Top 10 in that regard. Vernon is a highly regarded pass rusher, but Pierre-Paul is a Top 10 player at his position as it pertains to applying pressure to the quarterback.

Both are solid against the pass and run, but in the areas they may lack, the other excels at a borderline elite level.
