Running Back

Not a desperate need, but one that could take the New York Giants to another level on offense. When and where to draft a running back hinges on how much confidence Reese has in Paul Perkins and Shane Vereen to handle the workload.

Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford

The Giants surfaced as a potential landing spot for the former Heisman candidate in mock drafts a few weeks ago, but McCaffrey saw his draft stock rise after an impressive combine.

Should he fall to late in the first round, McCaffrey would challenge Reese’s “best player available” philosophy. Could this be the second time under the Reese regime the Giants draft a running back in the first round?

D’Onta Foreman, RB, Texas

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported this week the Giants were still looking for a “physical, power option” at running back. Look no further than D’Onta Foreman, who packs a punch at 6’0″ and 233 pounds, and is projected to be a mid-round pick.

Big Blue is reportedly interested in getting a closer look at the former Longhorn, as Foreman is expected to hold a private workout for the Giants soon.

Samaje Perine, RB, Oklahoma

Another running back projected to go in the middle rounds, Samaje Perine brings the power element New York wants. At 5’11” and 233 pounds, Perine has tremendous strength and could potentially handle the Giants’ short-yard situations.

If either Foreman or Perine are available, don’t be surprised if Reese pulls the trigger.
