Defensive End/Linebacker

The New York Giants had one of the most dominant defenses in the NFL last season, ranking in the top-10 in nearly every major statistical category.

Johnathan Hankins remains the front four’s only question mark, as Jason Pierre-Paul, Olivier Vernon, and Damon Harrison are all set to return.

The linebacking corps of Devon Kennard, Jonathan Casillas, and Keenan Robinson will remain intact, as well.

As was evident in New York’s past two Super Bowl runs, there’s no such thing as too much depth within the front seven.

Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee

Derek Barnett is another name that has been linked to Big Blue in the latest mock drafts. ESPN’s Mel Kiper, most notably, has the Giants taking him in the first round.

At 6’3″ and 259 pounds, Barnett is an all-around defensive end with a strong presence off the edge and in the run game.

His versatility would complement the defensive line and give defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo more packages to throw at opposing offenses.

Jarrad Davis, ILB, Florida

The Giants rarely select linebackers in early rounds, but Jarrad Davis could be an exception. Projected to be a second or third-round pick, Davis’ athleticism and potential have him high atop draft boards.

Teams love his character, which is something the Giants weigh heavily before drafting or signing a player.

Taking Davis would provide insurance for next year, when Casillas and Kennard are set to become unrestricted free agents.

Elijah Lee, OLB, Kansas State

A bit of a sleeper pick, Patricia Traina has Elijah Lee going to the Giants in round five of her mock draft. Lee has the intangibles to play linebacker in the NFL, with speed being the key asset of his game.

Should he fall to the fifth round or even lower, Lee could be a low-risk, high-reward type of player.
