With Eli Manning at an advanced age, the New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo is taking steps towards finding his heir apparent.

The New York Giants have taken the next step towards finding Eli Manning’s heir apparent. Though fans are divided on the matter of replacing the franchise player, father time is undefeated and Manning is 36 years of age.

With the search for Manning’s replacement as important as ever before, the attention has turned to the 2017 NFL Draft.

General manager Jerry Reese has been the leader of the Giants’ push for a new crop of prospects. Head coach Ben McAdoo, meanwhile, has been taking a different approach, reportedly never once attending a team or player’s Pro Day.

According to Paul Schwartz of The New York Post, McAdoo attended his first Pro Day in order to get a closer look at Patrick Mahomes II.

"Ben McAdoo normally does not hit college campuses to check out NFL Draft prospects. He leaves that assignment to Giants general manager Jerry Reese or Marc Ross, the vice president of player evaluation, or team scouts. But McAdoo was in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday to check out quarterback Patrick Mahomes of Texas Tech. It is believed to be the first Pro Day McAdoo has attended as the Giants’ head coach."

That’s a telling sign that New York has strong interest in drafting the former Texas Tech field general.

Mahomes, 21, is a 6’2″ and 225-pound field general with the body and swagger to operate both inside and outside the pocket. When his feet are set, he has a rare combination of arm strength, accuracy, and mobility.

Though some believe he’s a raw prospect who needs time to develop, playing behind Manning for multiple seasons would give him time to do so.

During his career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Mahomes proved just how dominant a force he can be when dialed in.

Mahomes finished the 2016 season with 5,052 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions on an efficient completion percentage of 65.7. He also ran for 285 yards and 12 touchdowns on 131 carries.

Mahomes tallied 4,653 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 2015, as well as 456 rushing yards and 10 scores on 131 carries.
