Though Jerry Reese has made moves in free agency, the New York Giants need help at running back. Could Christian McCaffrey be the answer?

The New York Giants have the potential to be one of the most explosive offensive teams in the NFL. Eli Manning has a number of quality options at his disposal, including All-Pro wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall, and promising slot receiver Sterling Shepard.

Although New York has acquired depth at the running back position, one could argue that it remains the weakest of the Giants’ skill positions.

There’s no question that the Giants need to improve along the offensive line, but there may not be a rational option at No. 23. Ryan Ramczyk could come off the board before the Giants’ pick and general manager Jerry Reese is known to go for the best player available.

Knowing that to be true, it stands to reason that the Giants could take a gamble on former Stanford Cardinal running back Christian McCaffrey.

McCaffrey is one of the most productive and dynamic players in college football history. Though Paul Perkins represents a bright future at the position, McCaffrey is supremely versatile and the type of talent who can diversify the Giants’ offense.

The question is: what reason would the New York Giants have to select Christian McCaffrey at No. 23 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft?
