The New York Giants have selected Evan Engram at No. 23 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. What do you need to know about the newest member of Big Blue?
The New York Giants have officially made their first move of the 2017 NFL Draft. After months of anticipation, general manager Jerry Reese sent Roger Goodell to the podium with an announcement that will shape New York’s future for years to come.

That’s a massive selection that could result in New York experiencing both short-term and long-term success on the offensive end of the field.
Engram is a tight end who played 41 games for Ole Miss. During that time, he recorded 162 receptions for 2,320 yards and 15 touchdowns, including the 65 receptions for 926 yards and eight touchdowns he recorded in 2016.
The hope in New York appears to be that Engram can come in and make a positive impact at the Giants’ primary offensive position of weakness.
Mere months after the Giants struggled to generate any form of positive movement on offense, Reese addressed the team’s need for a better tight end.
Engram, 22, is a 6’3″ and 234-pound playmaker who can take the top off of a defense as a true mismatch nightmare. He’s too big for safeties to comfortably cover in the passing attack, as well as too athletic for linebackers to keep up with.
That much was proven when Engram led the nation in yards per reception by a tight end with 17.4 in 2014. He never slowed down, instead becoming a safety blanket for Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly and one of the most productive players in the country.
In 2017, Giants quarterback Eli Manning will be able to throw it up and let Odell Beckham Jr., Engram, Brandon Marshall, or Sterling Shepard come down with it.
