Shane Vereen

Position: Running Back
Age: 28 (3/2/1989)
2016 Season Statistics:
Career Statistics: 63 games played, 311 attempts, 1,325 yards, 8 touchdowns; 177 receptions, 1,612 yards, 11 touchdowns

This comes with an asterisk due to his injury history, but Shane Vereen could be the player who rounds out an elite offense. The 28-year-old is a dynamic talent with the tools to be the perfect complement to Paul Perkins at running back.

A healthy Vereen is a matchup nightmare for every team the Giants encounter, and no player would benefit more from his presence than Eli Manning.

During his first season with the New York Giants, 2015, Vereen recorded 755 yards from scrimmage in 16 games played. He recorded 59 receptions for 495 yards and four touchdowns, and ran for an additional 260 yards on 61 carries.

Vereen had at least 60 yards from scrimmage in each of the three games before his primary injury in 2016, including the 95 yards he amassed against Washington.

When healthy, Vereen is as dangerous a receiving target out of the backfield as one can find in the NFL. He’s not only reliable on check downs, but he can work down the field and create separation from the linebackers placed on him.

Vereen is still young enough to bounce back from his injuries and perform at a high level. If he succeeds in doing so, the Giants’ offense will border on being unstoppable.

If the offensive line holds up and the New York Giants remain healthy in 2017, Eli Manning will have the best offensive weapons he’s ever played with.
