Is Fluker the Answer?

The New York Giants current offensive line remains exactly the same as last season: left tackle Ereck Flowers, left guard Justin Pugh, center Weston Richburg, right guard John Jerry and right tackle Bobby Hart.

Can we hope for better results or is that insanity?

My realistic solution is simple: Insert free agent signee DJ Fluker at right guard.

This simple adjustment would allow the O-line to play to its strengths. Fluker, while playing for the San Diego Chargers, struggled mightily while playing in space and dealing with speed rushers.

Allowing Fluker to slide inside would conceal his slow kick slide on passing plays and on runs. This would allow the strength of his game to flourish.

While operating out of the popular 11 personnel formation (3 wide receivers and a tight end), the offense should place Rhett Ellison along side left tackle Ereck Flowers. This alignment can stretch defensive lines, naturally opening running lanes and at the same time forces wider angles to rush the passer.

Flowers would be protected from the outside speed rush and use his strength to catch defensive ends as they attempt to bull rush him. Ellison can release with chips or stay in to block. Either way by keeping placing Ellison on the left side, the weakest link gets strengthened.
