Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin showed no hesitation when he was asked if he believes Eli Manning should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Eli Manning spent 12 seasons under legendary head coach Tom Coughlin. The former New York Giants coach departed in 2016, but not before the two added to the organization’s tally of championships won.

Coughlin, now executive vice president of football operations for the Jacksonville Jaguars, recently weighed in on Manning’s heavily debated place in history.

During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Coughlin was asked if he felt Manning was worthy of a Hall of Fame induction. It’s a popular topic of conversation in NFL circles, as Manning is viewed as a polarizing candidate.

When asked for his opinion by Eisen, however, Coughlin didn’t hesitate to speak in Manning’s favor.

"“Yes,” Coughlin told Eisen according to NFL.com. “In my opinion, he was certainly always our franchise quarterback and worthy of any accolade that could come his way.”"

Many Giants fans share the sentiment.

Manning has thrown for 48,214 yards and 320 touchdowns during his 13-year NFL career. During the 2016 season, he moved into eighth place on the all-time passing yards list.

Under Coughlin and Manning, the Giants went 97-87 in the regular season and 8-3 in the playoffs, capturing two Vince Lombardi trophies.

"“I know the inner workings of the young man,” Coughlin said. “I know how he performs in big games.”"

At 36 years old, Manning still has a few years to improve his numbers and capture a third championship ring.

Manning is likely to eclipse 50,000 career passing yards during the 2017 season—a feat that only six other NFL quarterbacks have accomplished.

Those quarterbacks are Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Dan Marino, and John Elway.

Should Manning remain healthy and continue at his current production rate, he will likely find himself in Canton, Ohio when it’s all said and done.
